Each year my boyfriend and I plant a big vegetable garden and start our own seedlings inside. With a little inspiration from the oldest in my Nanny family, I’ll be painting garden rocks to jazz it up a bit this year.
She’s painting rocks to give her Dad for Father’s Day. Her Dad always has an amazing garden each summer, so this is the perfect gift for him. If you or your kids have a person in their life that gardens I highly recommend doing this creative craft.

Collecting Rocks
The Nanny kids are lucky enough to live just a short drive away from a small river. We go down there all the time when the weather is good to skip rocks and float down the river on tubes.
When getting rocks, try and look for all different shapes and sizes. No matter the size of the rock you want to use, make sure one side is smooth. This way it will make it easier for you to paint and look nicer once you place them in the garden.

What should you paint?
What you paint on your rocks is up to you. Get creative and have fun. What my oldest Nanny Kid and I are doing is painting vegetables and writing their names on the rocks. This way we can put them in the garden next to the vegetables we plant to mark the area.
A few other ideas to paint on the rocks are:
- Mandalas
- Flowers
- Family Members
- Trees and their Leaves
- Animals
- Bugs
The more creative you get the more fun you’ll have and no matter what you paint they’ll make your garden look amazing.
